A Spooktacular Halloween Dinner: Spooky Spaghetti & Mummy Hot Dogs

Two easy, kid-friendly Halloween recipes to bring a little extra magic to your dinner table!

Halloween is almost here, and we’ve been soaking up every last bit of spooky season in our house!

One of my favorite things about the holidays is finding creative little ways to make ordinary moments feel special for the kids. Whether it’s decorating the house, watching our favorite Halloween movies, or making festive treats in the kitchen, I love adding a little holiday magic wherever I can. And what better way to celebrate Halloween than with a spooky-themed dinner?

This year, we decided to turn two ordinary family favorites into something a little more festive: Spooky Spaghetti with Eyeballs and Mummy Hot Dogs!

The best part? Both recipes are incredibly easy to make, require only a handful of ingredients, and are perfect for a busy weeknight.

You don’t need to spend hours in the kitchen creating an elaborate Halloween feast. Sometimes all it takes is a little creativity to turn an everyday dinner into something the kids will remember!

Recipe One: Spooky Spaghetti with Eyeballs

There’s something so fun about taking a classic spaghetti dinner and giving it a spooky little makeover!

For our Halloween version, we made a big bowl of spaghetti and added edible eyeballs to make it look like a silly little monster was staring back at us. It’s simple, a little creepy, and absolutely perfect for Halloween!

Ingredients

  • 1 box spaghetti noodles
  • 1 jar of your favorite marinara sauce
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (optional)
  • Italian seasoning, to taste
  • Mozzarella cheese balls or slices of mozzarella
  • Sliced black olives for the pupils
  • Optional: lean ground beef or ground turkey for extra protein

Instructions

  1. Cook your spaghetti. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook your spaghetti according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  2. Prepare the sauce. In a separate saucepan, warm your marinara sauce over medium-low heat. Add Italian seasoning and any additional seasonings your family enjoys. If you’re using ground beef or turkey, cook it thoroughly before adding it to the sauce.
  3. Combine everything. Toss the spaghetti with your warm marinara sauce until the noodles are nicely coated.
  4. Create your spooky eyeballs! Use small mozzarella balls or cut circles from mozzarella slices. Add a small slice of black olive to the center of each piece of cheese to create the pupils. You can even use green olives to add some color to your eyeball!
  5. Bring your spaghetti monster to life. Transfer your spaghetti to a serving bowl or individual plates and arrange the edible eyeballs throughout the noodles. Let the pasta cool slightly before adding the cheese so the eyeballs hold their shape.

And just like that, you’ve created a spooky spaghetti monster!

A little extra Halloween fun: Try serving the spaghetti in a large black bowl or on festive Halloween plates. You can even let the kids help place the eyeballs wherever they think their spaghetti monster should be looking!

Recipe Two: Mummy Hot Dogs

These might just be one of the cutest and easiest Halloween recipes we’ve made! Who knew that a package of hot dogs and a can of Pillsbury Crescent Rolls could turn into such an adorable Halloween dinner?

These little mummies are golden, flaky, and wrapped in strips of crescent dough to look like tiny bandages. They’re a fun addition to any Halloween dinner, and the kids will love seeing their little mummy creations come out of the oven!

Ingredients

  • 1 package of hot dogs (8 count)
  • 1 can Pillsbury refrigerated crescent rolls (8 count)
  • Mustard or ketchup for decorating
  • Optional: small pieces of black olives for the eyes (some small pieces of cheese to make the eyes pop!)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven. Set your oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the crescent dough. Open your Pillsbury Crescent Rolls and carefully unroll the dough. Press the perforations together to form larger sheets, then use a knife or pizza cutter to slice the dough into thin strips.
  3. Wrap your mummies. Take one hot dog at a time and wrap several strips of crescent dough around it, leaving a small opening near the top for the mummy’s face. Crisscross the strips to make them look like little bandages.
  4. Bake until golden. Place the wrapped hot dogs on your prepared baking sheet and bake for approximately 12–15 minutes, or until the crescent dough is golden brown and fully cooked. Follow your package instructions if they differ.
  5. Add the eyes! Once your mummies have cooled slightly, use tiny dots of mustard or ketchup to create two little eyes. You can also use small pieces of black olives.

And there you have it! Your very own little mummy hot dogs, ready to enjoy!

A fun serving idea: Arrange your mummy hot dogs on a Halloween platter with a small bowl of ketchup labeled “Vampire Blood” for dipping!

Making Halloween Dinner a Little More Magical

One of the things I love most about these recipes is how easy they are to personalize.

You can keep everything simple or go all out with festive plates, Halloween decorations, and spooky music playing in the background.

If you want to make the evening even more special, here are a few ideas:

  • Set the table with orange and black napkins, miniature pumpkins, and battery-operated candles.
  • Let the kids help wrap their own mummy hot dogs.
  • Serve dinner with a fun Halloween drink or sparkling apple cider.
  • Play a family-friendly Halloween playlist while everyone eats.
  • Finish the evening with a cozy Halloween movie!

And remember, the food doesn’t have to look perfect. In fact, sometimes the sillier the mummy bandages or the more crooked the spaghetti eyeballs, the better!

A Little Halloween Magic Around the Dinner Table

As much as I love planning special holiday outings and activities, I’ve come to appreciate the little moments at home just as much.

There’s something so sweet about gathering around the dinner table, watching the kids laugh over their silly Halloween creations, and enjoying a meal together. These are the moments that make the holidays feel special to me. Not necessarily the extravagant decorations or elaborate plans, but the simple traditions we create along the way.

And while our spooky spaghetti and mummy hot dogs might not be the fanciest Halloween dinner, they certainly brought plenty of smiles to our table. Sometimes that’s all the magic we need. So, if you’re looking for a fun, easy, and affordable Halloween dinner idea this year, give these two recipes a try!

Wishing you and your little monsters a wonderfully spooky Halloween!
